"'Cause God it just feels so... it just feels so good." [23 Dec 2007|08:52am]

Okay, so I couldn't resist writing something of a companion piece to My Castle For A Hanky, but this time featuring dear Harry's own... magical ailment. Lol.

I'd like to thank everyone who commented on Hanky, as I went to bed in such a great mood that I immediately got the idea for this fic and spent about an hour getting back out of bed to switch the light on and then off and then back on as I wrote down notes and snippets for it. I appreciate the kind words so much. :)

This fic does have a bit more meat to it than the previous one, as I couldn't figure out a way to shorten it without receiving the inevitable (and justified) comments pointing out plot holes and why this or that doesn't work, etc., and I think it gets its story across better this way. Hopefully I've managed all right and people like it as much as the first one.

Same notes apply as in that first fic: feedback and reviews = love like crazy, though please keep any constructive criticisms gentle, as one published fic does not a seasoned author make, obviously. :P And again, I haven't the service of a beta, so if anyone spots errors, please do point them out!

Title: My Castle For An Eyepatch... Make That Two
Author: Dream Away
Fandom: HP
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: *laughs* Excessive nudity?
Word Count: 2,802
Summary: Harry Potter is visually impaired. But not in the way you might think.

Disclaimer: I... I guess I could steal J.K.'s identity and this would be mostly legit. Anyone know her social security number? No? Pity, that. Otherwise, no own HP concepts/characters, no profit, and consider this disclaimed.

Author's Notes: This is post-series, it isn't DH-compliant, and there really aren't spoilers for anything in here. Can certainly be read as a stand-alone, but a particular part makes more sense when read after My Castle For A Hanky. :)

Unbelievable. This is my first posted HP fic in about six years (the evidence of that was, through some happy miracle, eaten by the internet in the great NC-17 purge of FanFiction.Net in 2002). I've only posted maybe two or three tiny fics (for different fandoms) since then, under other names, and holy crap, I'm nervous.

Regarding feedback or reviews, if anyone feels like sharing it, I'd welcome it gladly, though I'd appreciate it if you could be gentle with any constructive criticisms, as I'm not very confident when it comes to my writing. Thank you.

Also, this hasn't been beta'd, because I don't have a beta, and I'm too shy to find one. *chokes* If you notice any typos or spelling errors or hiccups in punctuation, etc., please do let me know. I'm a bit neurotic about that sort of thing and would be embarrassed to look back on this months from now only to see a typo's been in there all along.

The story itself is a silly little idea that I originally had a couple of years ago, but after I'd written a fair portion of the beginning, my computer crashed and I lost it (I know, I know, save every 52.7 seconds to avoid that kind of thing), which totally bummed me out and demotivated me. This story is nothing like that original version aside from the premise, and I don't know which one I prefer more, but hopefully someone'll get a kick out of it. Enjoy. :)

Title: My Castle For A Hanky
Author: Dream Away
Fandom: HP
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Rating: PG
Warnings: None. Pretty tame stuff.
Word Count: 1,487
Summary: There's a reason Severus Snape is such a grumpy bastard, you know.

It's just a silly ficlet/vignette/whatever you'd like to call it (incidentally, what are the fanfiction terms that identify stories by word count? I've looked around, but no one seems to agree. Can anyone tell me or point me to a website with definitive info?).

Dilemma!

I've been working on this fic, right, and I was planning for it to be Harry/Tom (Riddle, that is. I'll leave the Bartender to the rareslashers), but the way things are going... it's turning out as a total threesome between Harry, Tom, and Severus. *sigh* I don't know if I can do a threesome. I'm daunted enough by the idea of writing a twosome properly (not even counting smut. Geez. *hyperventilates*), let alone eventually figuring out the mechanics of three at a time!

I don't know what to do. I don't think the story's going to feel right if I try to keep it as only Harry and Tom. There's already something of an odd focus on Severus (but that could just be because he's the degree of separation between Harry and Tom?), and I don't see that changing.

What to do, what to do.

Curses! Foiled again!

I finally got around to checking how my layout looks on the old desktop PC, and OH GOD IT'S HIDEOUS.

On my laptop, it's sexy as (in coming weeks, I'll be demonstrating my vast abilities of modesty). The stripe of colour behind Harry in the header, and the entry background colour etc. is a nice light blue on my screen, but on the PC it's a horrendous greenish-blue teal colour, and everything looks much darker and more contrasty.

If you're seeing more green than blue, I apologise. You'll just have to take my word for it that it's hotter on newer computers.

Maybe I should make future layouts on the PC.

Mongrel bastards.

Anyway, in other news.

I was reminded the other day of something that struck me when I was re-reading the 'Harry Potter' series in early July (in preparation of the release of book 7, yes).

Has anyone else noted how in many, many fics, the authors often write about "wards"? As in, "wards" to detect when someone's approaching a door, when someone's entered a room without a character's permission, silencing "wards", privacy "wards" and so on and so forth.

As far as I ever saw in the books, JKR doesn't once use the word "wards". She uses "protective spells" and "Muggle-repelling charms" and enchantments and whatever else, but I don't recall a single instance of the word "ward" in reference to that kind of thing.

Am I wrong? Did I just miss it? And hey, it's entirely plausible that I did, as my memory's about as good as the proverbial goldfish's, but if I didn't, where did "ward" start? Did an author use it in a fic one day, another author saw it, liked the idea, and used it in their own fic, someone else saw that, and on it goes? Of course, fandom has a history of doing this sort of thing, to the point where some people start believing fanon concepts are actually canon, so it's not totally out of the realm of possibility.

I wonder about these things.

My life is obviously rich and fulfilling.

Well, here I am!

Sort of. Sometimes. Hopefully.

Uh.

This journal will have a couple of purposes by the end. One purpose is to be a journal that will represent me on InsaneJournal like my LiveJournal does on that site. Since I do have a personal journal already, this one will be more of a fandom journal, where I can post my thoughts or observations or anything to do with my fandoms, really. It will also help me keep track of the sections of 'Harry Potter' fandom that have recently migrated over here from LiveJournal. Bless 'em.

Apart from that, I'm hopeful that this journal will eventually hold some ficcish content to its name. I plan for it to be a journal where I can post my writings, which will probably only be 'Harry Potter' fanfiction. I'm hopeful that the things I post here won't suck mightily, but I can't make any guarantees. I've never really had any chance for feedback on my written work (except for when I was in highschool in English classes, and it's been a while since then), since I rarely, if ever, show them to anyone because I'm a complete wimp, so for all I know my fics could end up biting the big one.

Likely that'll change (my knowledge of my own quality or lack, that is) if I do get to posting here and passers-by leave me feedback on it, but I won't get my hopes too high up.

Anyway! What a boring post this is so far. I didn't mean for it to be, I swear! It just sort of... came out that way. *headdesk*

Ah, well. I'm sure your fingers are crossed in the hopes that you'll be seeing more of my utterly fascinating entries soon. ;)
